Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson recently spoke to the media about her pending divorce from advertising executive Roman Dauriac. Johansson noted the struggles of staying married, as well as the difficulties posed by getting divorced.
Johansson and Dauriac were married in Montana in 2014 and they have a two-year-old daughter. Although Johansson filed for divorce from Dauriac in January 2017, there have been reports that the celebrity couple has been legally separated since last year.
In a recent interview, Johansson discussed her past relationships, including her earlier divorce from fellow Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds. Much of what Johansson said during the interview probably holds true for a lot of people who have gone through divorce. For instance, Johansson stated that marriage can be “a lot of work” because it’s not always easy to stay monogamous. She added that staying in a committed relationship with one person may not be “a natural thing.” These feelings have likely been shared by plenty of people who were in marriages that ended.
However, it’s worth noting that Johansson had recently split from her husband when she made these comments about marriage and monogamy. The reality is that the feelings of loss and regret that a person feels as they are going through a difficult divorce, or immediately after their divorce is finalized, can subside with the passage of time.
In her far-ranging interview, Johansson also observed that “being married is different than not being married.” This is something that many spouses are acutely aware of when they try to decide whether to go through with a divorce. Moreover, if there is a kid involved, as there is in the case of Johansson and Dauriac, there could be issues that linger long after the divorce is finalized.
