Parents have gotten plenty of useful information during the past few days through an Internet event focused on helping parents meet the challenges of raising a child after a divorce.

The four-day online summit, “Co-Parenting Without Power Struggles: Single, Step, Blended, and More,” runs from September 20-23 and features several contributors and speakers, including Arianna Huffington, Glennon Doyle Melton, Byron Katie, Martha Beck, Laura Markham, Harville Hendrix, and others.

The host of the event is Susan Stiffelman, a renowned author and family therapist who routinely helps individuals deal with co-parenting issues in the aftermath of a difficult divorce. Stiffelman provides weekly parenting advice in an online column for The Huffington Post and advises parents on the best ways to talk with children about a legal separation or divorce.

What Happens to the Kids after a Divorce?

When a marriage ends, it is often tough on the ex-spouses as they end one chapter in their lives and begin another. Things can be particularly complicated when the marriage involves children because there are often child custody issues during the divorce proceedings. Moreover, the presence of kids in a marriage can make it virtually impossible to completely turn the page on your ex-spouse and your old relationship. When a child is involved in the marriage, both parents will likely remain in each other’s lives going forward.

If you have completed a divorce and are still dealing with your ex-spouse as you both work to raise your child or children, one of the most important things you can do right now is to make sure that you are doing right by your kids and ensuring that they remain well-adjusted and happy – even as they are raised outside a traditional family context.

The reality is that a divorce can be very hard on the children, who often struggle to cope with conflict between their parents. That’s why it is so important for the parents in a marriage that has ended to avoid conflict and work with each other to raise their kids.
