Camden County law enforcement recently arrested a Camden NJ man on child pornography distribution charges. The suspect, a 22-year-old resident of Camden, New Jersey, has been accused of uploading illicit sexual images of minors to the Internet.

Although it is unclear what exactly prompted the initial investigation into the suspect, it is known that authorities became aware of the suspect’s alleged illegal activity at some point. A number of law enforcement agencies were involved in the subsequent investigation, including the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crimes Unit, the Camden County Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team, the Camden County Police Department, and U.S. Homeland Security. Officials have not indicated why Homeland Security was part of the criminal investigation.

The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office eventually got enough evidence to obtain a search warrant for the suspect’s home and a warrant for the suspect’s arrest. Members of both the Camden County Police Department and the Camden County Sheriff’s Office executed the arrest warrant at the suspect’s residence on the 700 block of Ramona Gonzalez Street in Camden, NJ. The suspect was reportedly placed under arrest without incident, with law enforcement going to the residence around 5:30 a.m. Authorities reportedly seized the suspect’s personal computer and other electronic devices while conducting a search of the premises.

Local police also contacted the NJ Department of Child Protection and Permanency (CP&P, formerly known as the Division of Youth and Family Services) because an underage child was reportedly living at the Camden residence with the suspect.

Criminal Charges, Severe Penalties for Internet Crimes in New Jersey

The suspect has been charged with multiple sexual offenses, including possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography. Camden County prosecutors said that additional criminal charges could be forthcoming, depending on what investigators discover while examining the suspect’s “digital media devices.” Moreover, the suspect could potentially face criminal charges for endangering the welfare of a child because a child was present in the home.

Beyond that, it is possible that the CP&P could take away custody of the child from the suspect. The CP&P will almost certainly conduct an investigation and look for signs of child abuse and child neglect, especially given the circumstances and nature of the suspect’s alleged sex crimes.

After being placed under arrest and processed, the suspect was remanded to the Camden County Jail in Camden, New Jersey. He was being held at the correctional facility in lieu of a $100,000 bail amount. Additionally, the suspect’s bail was reportedly cash only, meaning that he would not be able to secure his release by posting 10-percent of the bail amount. Beyond that, if the suspect does manage to post bail and get released prior to resolution of the criminal charges, it is likely that he would be prohibited from using a computer or communicating with minors while free on bail.
