Janet Jackson has finally confirmed her pending divorce from husband Wissam Al Mana.
The singer and Qatari businessman Wissam Al Mana, have been married for five years and recently welcomed their son, Eissa Al Mana on January 3, 2017.
The couple was rumored to have separated a soon after the birth, and Ms. Jackson was seen in public without her wedding ring the beginning of April 2017.
The split, while amicable, is said to be fueled by Ms. Jackson’s chafing under the constraints of her husband’s religious and cultural beliefs. “She loves to be in control,” a “family confidante” told the New York Post. “She ceded that control [in marriage] and she was not happy about it. She wants to get back to being Janet Jackson and not Mrs. Wissam Al Mana or being the obedient Muslim wife.”
The couple may be divorcing, but Al Mana is still very involved with Eissa. He was seen with the 3-month-old baby recently in a London park. “Janet really trusts Wissam and he trusts her. They have a strong friendship. There is no fighting between them.” a family friend told People on Wednesday.
The family continues to reside in London, makes the religious aspect of their divorce and custody matters much easier.
No comment has been made on whether Ms. Jackson will return to live in the U.S. or if Eissa will travel with her on State of the World tour beginning Sept. 7, 2017.
